In Jan of 2010, working with a third party, we applied for a loan mod from Chase bank. We were forwarded a form by this person telling us we were accepted into the HAMP program, so we filled out the necessary paperwork. We were told by this 3rd party not make payments so as not have the process stop. After being assured time after time after time by Chase, while sending dozens of papers they claimed they didn't have, that all was fine and to be patient. Now, almost a year ans a half later, they have told us we don't qualify because we make too much money !( My wife and I are on fixed incomes, both earning Social Security and small pensions only.) Our house has lost much of it's value, going from approx $300,000.00 to approx $70,000.00, taking about 125,000.00 equity with it. At this point Chase won't even accept monthly payments for past due amount (payments, late fees, and interest) They want it all now, after leading us down the garden path, all the time assuring us all will be fine, it just takes time ! We have just enough of our lifelong savings to be able to save our house but will have nothing to fall back on in an emergency.
Our tax money was used to help Chase and others survive, who now pretty much are saying "Screw You" to us and many others who have found themselves in similar situations.
