Sharon Wells, Victor Ellis; Patricia Arbour (Melville Canada)
Recently, I applied for a loan online for the amount of $12500. I was contacted on Wednesday, Nov. 5th by a Sharon Wells with Oakdale Lending Group. She wanted to let me know that I was fully approved for the loan that I had applied for. She told me that it was a secured loan and in order to receive the money, I would need to send the first 7 months of payments which was $1688.68 via moneygram to a Patricia Arbour in Melville Canada. The cost of sending this money was going to be $33.60. Sharon faxed me a contract, which looked legit. I signed the contract and faxed it back to her. After speaking to her again, she told me to send $1680.00 and not to worry about the extra $8.68 becase the lender would refund me the money that it cost me to send the moneygram.
I sent the money on Friday, 11/7/08 and I called Sharon back to give her the reference number of the money sent. At this point, I had given her my bank account number and routing information as well as sent her a copy of my driver's license. She told me that I should see the money in my account ($12500) no later than 2 pm on Monday, 11/10. On Monday morning, I received a phone call from a Victor Ellis in the customer service department of Oakdale Lending Group. He told me that there was a slight complication with the process of my loan. Their insurance adjustor had done a reassessment and said that I didn't give them enough money to secure the loan so they were requesting me to send them another $1680.00 in order to get the loan money. I refused. After that, I was so frustrated and started to do some research on the company. I found some interesting information on www.ripoffreport.com regarding this company as well as some other individual names of account executives and another name and location to send the money. This company isn't registered in the yellow pages online, they aren't listed with the Better Business Bureau and the first thing that pops up when you google this company is the rip off reports.
I am reporting this information because I don't want to see anyone else fall into the same trap that I did. This was the first time that I had applied for a loan online and as embarrasssing as this is, it will be the last. Not only am out the $1713.60 that I sent them (including the fee to send it) but I am out $2,100 plus their fees in payday loans that I had to take out to get the loan.
Since this happened, I have taken the time to really investigate this, finding that the same telephone number this company is using, used to be registered to Star One Lenders. Coincidence? I think not. I believe that this is the same company, at it once again.
I contacted the property management company that owns this building at One Morton Drive and was told that they have never heard of this company and this company has never been a tenant of theirs. I am going to continue to investigate and hopefully get something accomplished. I just want the word to get out there so that others don't become victim of this crime.
