I went to book a flight for me and my daughter to San Antonio to see my son in the Air Force. Decided to use Orbitz after checking on 2 airline web sites. Orbitz had a lot of roundtrip flight packages that were quoted as $436 per person (includes taxes & fees). I found one that fit my schedule so I checked proceed.
I scrolled through the pages filling in the info needed in order to process. Before I could enter my credit card, the site asked if I wanted to book a hotel... "I could save more money". So I checked it out and found a hotel for $104(+taxes)/night. Originally my son was going to book the hotel because he could get a military discount but this sounded good so I checked proceed.
Once again, the site said I could save more if I booked a car rental. I found one for $33/day and checked proceed.
The site provided only a grand total and without thinking I paid. Afterwards I started thinking and realized that it was too high. When I talked with Orbitz they said that the minute I booked a "package" my airfare changed. Now I was paying over $600/person. Their site never showed me the change. It was only in the total. I am now paying over $300 more than if I would have booked each separately! This is a rip off!
