Builtmor Homes Inc. Has Bad Business Practices - Building Contractor

- Fredericksburg, VA
Builder contracted to build house at cost plus fixed fee, but took more than 300,000 in money not spent on house not including builders fee of 200,000 and refuses to finish house or return unspent money. In all they have reportedly spent just over 700,000 on a 1,300,000 house and refuses to return any of the 500,000 of unspent money. The public needs to be warned about this company. I am sure we are not the first victims of this company and we unfortunately may not be the last. BEWARE!

I guess you can put anything on the internet with out facts to back it up. Don't belive everything you read.

Dear Homeowner:
So sorry to hear about your nightmare. I have seen his kind before. To build a house of that value implies that you have a few buck which puts you at high risk for a scam.
I haven't found regulatory agencies to be helpful except for these consumer protection sites that allow us to go public with these abuses.

If it were me I would get more than the standard 3 estimates for completion and get a good construction litigation attorney. I bet this isn't his first time and certainly won't be his last if he can pull off a wind fall scam of this magnitude. Run his name through your local courthouse site to see if he has a criminal or civil history.
I am amazed that you can remain so calm and keep your story so short when obviously you must be outraged at being scammed out of so much money.

Builtmor Homes Inc has come thru as a great builder. They We have mutually settled our dispute. Unlike many other builders I have heard horror stories about (many on this site) we both came they have come to the table and worked this situation out to our mutual satisfaction made right our complaints. And while any contractor can build a house, it’s only those that stand up and work through things with their customers fix the problems that do arise that are truly trust worthy builders. It has been a long, a strenuous and emotional journey for us to build a handicapped accessible home for our 24 year old son who suffers from cerebral palsy. We have tried to make the building of this house something he could have some independence in for the rest of his life, and making that happen has been an awesome task. Builtmor homes took on this task and though there were differences, they have made them right. Hats off to BUILTMOR, Ms. Brown and Mr. Nicholson for continuing to work through these issues and getting this resolved doing the right thing!
