Recently bought 4 new goodyear wrangler at/s owl tires for chevy avalanche...In mid December 2010 ...That was what is on the chevy avalanche cars at dealerships...Time for 4 new tires which my husband has bought 6 sets of same tires over the past 8 yrs on both of his avalanches...Never had problem with tires till Saturday... Was going down to see daughter 200 miles away in bloomington normal to meet up with college groceries and go to dinner... Had car checked out on Thursday to check belts hoses, oil, for road trip...Everything was fine, including tires...They wre not ready to be rotated yet he said....Started on journey and goig 40 miles an hour on highway #20 in belvedere, on two lane road we heard a kaboom.....Looked around and saw nothing till we got to stop light, and car pulled up to us saying our tire is flat and is smoking.....
Went into mobil satation immediately and pulled to the air gauge...Unfortunately our tire was buldging from the inside out with big massive bubbles blowing up as weir in it...The guy next to us said your tire and the belts on fire from the inside you might want to call police or fire dept for assistance, but I wouldn't go any further...Called police and road service....Policeman said not to drive car ...Tire is a hazard ...Got road allstate motor club to come and he wouldn't touch tire for an hour as it was to hot to take off...
When we called d wells automotive about this, there were no dealerships in area open to help with goodyear tire...Our trip was ruined to see daughter, and when on Monday my husband went to bring back mangled, destroyed burned out tire, we assumed being only a 3 month old tire, we would d=get a full replaced tire... They mad us pay $106.00 More for a new tire, and said that it had a fast punctured lak that caused this...Had it been a slow leak it wouldn't ave happened..The tire was hotter than coals...My husband had no choice and paid the bill angry as his back was against the wall...Would you drive on orignial spare from 2005? My husband babies his car...Its like brand new...So why would he keep a spare on there when he just bought 4 new tires for $1000.00 To keep the upkeep going on his avalanche...
Called goodyear customer service and got a rude agent named steve, who called d wells and trusted his judgemt and said tough luck...Your husband chosed to pay the $106.00 For tire....Did my husband has a choice???Was there a representative from goodyear to come and evaluate tire???????They didn't care....This tire is accident prone waiting to happen...I reported this incident to safercar. Gov and filed a complaint not only with government, but with goodyear.
Someone needs to investigate this tire, as I feel it is a hazard or serious tire that could maybe cause an accident or kill someone...We were lucky thatsomeone stopped us and alerted us....It was like a major kaboom of glass shattering, that is what the tire sounded like...And we going 35-40 miles an hour on a two laneroad entering the townof belvedere.....I hope that someone else who has these tires, that it doesn't happen to them....Someone should investigate this make and model...Its an accidet waiting to happen....Lucky for me, we are alive and safe....
