I have discovered that if you attempt to work at all while collecting unemployment benefits you will suffer emotionally and economically. My work was slowing down from 50 hrs. a week down to 0 - 20 hours a week. I struggled with this for months before filing my claim. I was still working when it was available. I mistakenly put on my claim form "still working" instead of "still working part time". They stopped my claims without notification. That caused me to lose months of benefits and countless hours to get back on track. Note: I never received any of the back EDD benefits. After months without a check I finally received a check. Then the nightmares returned again-but now they were worse than before. I was still worked when it was available and I always claimed what I worked. Checks stopped and they scheduled me for a phone interview(Phone Interview=PI) about not claiming vacation pay as income. On my PI I told them I claimed it as income. They said "I see-you did it correctly. Several weeks later they sent me a letter saying they decided in my favor. What? I finally received several claim forms and sent them in. No checks. Then I was notified "pymnts on hold" They need to verify my identity -they will send me forms. I sent in all the info they requested-and more.(Born-lived-worked-paid taxes-all my life here) They never said why they needed this info. But all pymnts are put on hold. It has now been months since I got a check. Got maybe 2 checks and "BAM" another PI-same thing same results. 1-2 weeks later "BAM" PI again. A week later received a letter saying PI was canceled. 1 week later another letter for a PI. Same thing -same results. Finally they sent a few back claim forms. They were several months behind. After I received a check I realized I made a mistake on my claim. I called them up to notify them. Lady said you can't cash that check and if you do your in trouble. I said I called you to correct so I can pay the $75 in overpayment. She said no-send us back the check and they would send me anew claim form and issue a check after that. I thought she was nuts. I finally receive a check after months and you want me to return a $900 check for $75 overpayments. I said I would send the $75 and she threatheed me and repeated this (seriously) about 20 times. I finally said "stop repeating yourself-let me speak to a manager" She said ok and 1 last time repeated that I had to return the check-then dial tone. Called back and of course they were too busy to accept more calls. I emailed them too asking where I should sent them a check for the extra $75.Ifinally received an email stating there was no purpose in sending them a check since I cashed my EDD check. What? That would be the ONLY reason why I would send them a check. Anyway they said I will receive another letter for a PI to see if I am elegible for benefits anymore since I didn't claim the 4 hours I worked. No mention that I was the one who told them and tried to pay and correct it. My claims forms were so late I forgot about a 4 hour company meeting. The only work I had in months. So they are now holding my past checks until this PI. I can honestly say I am disgusted in what is happening to this country and call me racist but I am tired of all these overpaid government workers who can hardly speak English judging me and withholding benefits I have paid into my whole life. For the sake of brevity I left out the countless hours of anger, frustration, delays, etc. I can't afford to send my daughter to college so she has to work and go to school and 2 of her 3 roommates are better off than us and they are going basically for free to what amounts to affirmative action. I am through with California and supporting all the illegals, foreigners, and those Americans that are too lazy to work. Try taking your kid to Childrens Hospital and waiting 7 hours to see someone when it is obvious you are the only person in there who is actually paying and who can speak English. I am not racist and I am a compassionate person but that is starting to change. But what's wrong with me-cheer up Obama is here -he is going to pay my rent, get me a pony, end racism, and fix the world.
