Bogus Checks - Is This A Legal Document?

Received a check from Wellpoint in the amount of $5803.61 written on the Wachovia Bank of Delaware, N. A..This is supposed to be a lottery winning.,called MTA LOTTERY SWEEPSTAKES>This is only a portion of the $250,000,00 that has been won. Hard to believe this isn't a SCAM. Would like to know if this is a legal transaction.
