I am writing you on behalf of my dear friend who lives in Putnam County, NY.. Her home borders a new housing development. The land is being prepared for construction by blasting. The blasting in bedrock (for the past 4 years) has caused cracks in the foundation of her home and damage to the plumbing resulting in even more damage caused by water leaks in the walls and ceilings. The house is literally being shook off its foundation. Her attempts at seeking relief has been ignored by local government officials and other agencies that are suppose to protect her rights. The developer is wealthy and has made money contributions in the right places. Local political factions have benefited from these dubious acts of generosity and has resulted in a wall of defiance at any attempt of achieving fairness. The district attorneys office even filed a harassment charge against her when she tried to eject surveyors off her property. The charge was later dropped on a technicality . For my friend to enact a law suite seems feudal. Attorney fees can be $250 to $400 an hour and more. Big money would easily defeat her by shear attrition of her limited funds. If our justice system is based on equality and fairness, this story stinks to high heaven. Aside of the physical damage to her home, the emotional toll has been devastating. Depression, anxiety, isolation, and just a core prevalence of hopelessness.
This story deserves close scrutiny. As the bible says, " what is done in the darkness, will soon come to light".
I urge all to take a look at the facts and help this young lady get her life back.
Gratefully,
Francis
