Beware of what UPS office you use Complaint

UPS - OOPS - Shipping/Insurance

- Nationwide
I shipped a few of my things from my home in Miami to my home in Calif. I went to a so-called UPS store. Since these things were valuable, I insured them for $300.00. They arrived at my home in California, box damaged and contents broken. I called UPS and was informed by them they the UPS store is the place who needs to make the claim since it was they who shipped it. I was also told that they cannot talk to me about my things because in their mind, my things belonged to the UPS store. UPS informed me that once I gave the product to their UPS store, I am no longer the owner but they are. This is obsurd. Now they calm I had not packed it properly and UPS is not responsible. They also claim that it is the store who must call them not me. I cannot understand this. How can it be? I owned the product, I paid this UPS store to ship it, I bought the insurance and now it does not belong to me? I guess that just because a store can say UPS, doesn't mean it is UPS. How is one to know this? If a check were to be issued it would go to the UPS store. What is it I am not understanding. I shipped my own things to my self, and now I am told it belongs to the UPS store. Please help me!!!
