I'M SENDING THIS TO MN TV STATIONS ON PURPOSE!!!
BECAUSE BEST BUY IS SUPPOSED TO BE BASED THERE.
--------------------------------------------------------
I purchased a Toshiba Laptop computer at Best Buy on 1/1/09, and paid with a credit card. It worked fine until 8 days later when I tried to watch a DVD on it. The DVD started spinning extremely fast, and the computer vibrated like an orbital sander set on a table... running. After managing to turn it off, I tried several more times to watch the DVD (also using others)...same problem.
So I packaged it up just like new... even removing fingerprints and smudges on it, and returned to the Best Buy where I bought it... WITH MY RECEIPT.
According to THEIR policy, I returned a defective computer within 14 days for a FULL refund.
Making a very long story shorter...
After taking my computer into the back room for about 5 minutes, their employees couldn't find anything wrong. I asked them to bring it out and I'd show them what it does.
I installed the DVD, clicked on the neccesary places to watch it, then it started vibrating while the DVD spun extremely fast. I did this twice in front of the customer service worker and the geek squad employee.
The GS employee said that this was completely normal, and you had to "break in" the computer... even though it only started after 8 days, and watching only 2 or 3 videos on it.
I asked for a manager. She didn't even look at it. She said that what their employee said is enough for her. She was going to charge me a 15% restocking fee or I could keep it. She wouldn't let me speek to another manager. She also wouldn't put in writing that this problem was normal... I asked! After a little arguing, she offered to trade it in towards another purchase there. I declined stating that if this is the way you treat your customers, I wouldn't buy anything there again. I stated that I would turn the problem over to my bank and the media to get ALL of my money returned. She was quite rude, and handed me a return receipt for only 85% of what I had paid. I took the receipt, and went to the greeterat the front of the store. I asked to see a store manager other than the one I had just seen. He called for one. She showed up again and said that they were unavailable. So I walked back into the store to look for a friend that had been there with me. That manager followed me through the store wherever I went until I left.
It gets better...
I stopped at a local computer shop on the way home. They said that it isn't supposed to vibrate like that, and that you don't have to break a computer in... and the DVD is supposed to spin slowly while watching.
Even more...
I called Best Buy that evening, hoping to speak to a different manager. I got lucky, or so I thought.
This manager listened calmly and said that she would investigate the situation, and call me right back. If the computer did what I said, she'd credit my credit card the other 15%. She called in about 10 minutes and informed me that my computer had been sold that same day at a discount, and without seeing it there was nothing else she could do.
So, they either sold it defective, or fixed the problem before it was sold... Or they didn't sell it at all.
I called the Best Buy complaint # and had a little luck. They offered me a $40 gift card. I declined saying I wouldn't shop there again because I didn't like the way I was treated.
There's more!!!
I called the Geek Squad toll free # and got a very nice person on the phone that said "Normal noise could be expected, but the DVD shouldn't be spinning fast, and the computer should not be vibrating like a sander". However, she would not put it in writing.
As of this morning, my bank hasn't recorded the credit of 85% yet. I know it can take a few more days... but the bank started the dispute over the full amount until it shows on my account.
So... Even if I bought this computer, opened it up in the store, tried to play a DVD, and it was defective, I would lose 15% immediately. It wasn't fit for the purpose I intended to use it!
Please let the public know that the Geek Squads word is final!!! Even if they are wrong or don't agree.
Also, pay with a credit card and let your bank help... Then tell the media!!!
Please help get my money back... all of it.
Thanks!!!
I'M GOING TO CONTACT ANYONE I CAN ABOUT THIS UNTIL I GET ALL OF WHAT I PAID RETURNED!
