I received an offer that "seeks real people opinions about various products or services"...You visit select retail stores, restaurants and various other commercial establishments, making purchases and evaluating the level of customer service, store location and appearance as well as product quality. This survey offer I was being given the opportunity to participate in was for WESTERN UNION, and for either BEST BUY, K-MART or WALMART. A cashier's check for $2990.00 drawn off of "Miami Federal Credit Union @ 51 SW 1st Avenue, room #604 in Miami, Florida 33130". The "offer" letter I received stated that the enclosed official check provides you the funds you need to execute your survey. The letter went on to claim that the funds for the survey had been pre-arranged. The letter gave the itemized breakdown of how the funds were to be used. It then went on to state that to carry out the surveys(s) I was required to deposit/cash the enclosed check at my local bank. I was then instructed to take the cash and spend according to the breakdown listed below:
PARTICIPATION WAGE: $300.00
WESTERN UNION TRANSACTION FUNDS: $2,400.00
WESTERN UNION SERVICE FEE CHARGE: $140.00
RETAIL STORE(BEST BUY, K-MART OR WALMART) $150.00
TOTAL: **$2,990.00**
I then was given instructions on how to proceed after Shadow Shopping the aboved businesses..As I decide to google the address/info listed on the cashiers check and the Consumer Research Center Inc listed on the letterhead, the search results were all about the following caption , "Canada Check Fraud Scam - paid survey"..other people had received the same type instructions/checks...I know that there are legitimate offers from major companies to shadow shop there stores in all areas of the country that pay you to provide feedback in many different types of shopping experiences...People at this time of our countrys economic difficulties are just trying to take care of themselves and their families...The crooks are getting more and more advanced in the lengths they will go to to scam people..Every day people struggle to see and hear the good that still exists in our world...All we ever seem to hear on TV and read in publications are the negatives that exist around every corner..We NEED to believe in the good in people and then something like this rears its evil head..This type of scam needs to be put out there so other people may read of this and not be taken in by this..
