I'm writing this story on behalf of my newphew and his girlfriend who purchased a used car from a dealerhip located at 2160 NW 79th ST, Miami, FL 33147. We understand that when you purchase a used car that is what you're getting but I don't think it's fair or morally correct for dealerships to take advantage of people who can only afford a used car. The price of the car was $2699 my nephew gave a down payment of $1,300 and paid another $200.00 for warranty on the engine for one year. The dealership is financing the rest although they said there are no finance charges they still owe another $3,135.93. This car is a 1995 Lincoln Aurora. My nephew wasn't allowed to test the car out in the street he had to drive it in the lot after the down payment was made. When the car was tested my nephew and his girlfriend told the salesman the car had problems and they wanted there money back and the salesman got pissed and told my nephew he wasn't getting his money back. There was going to be an altercation with my nephew and the saleman so my nephew left with the car. After a couple of days he took the car to get an oil change the mechanic that checked the car told my nephew that he needed to take that car back where he bought it from because the car had a hole in the engine and it had been plugged with some kind of putty. Well to make a long story short the dealership is telling us now that we have to pay half the amount of the cost to repair the engine. My nephew and his girlfriend have only been living here for 5 months they have been working to purchase a car and now they are going to be out of a car and out alomost $5,000. If they don't make the payments they will repossess the car and maybe they should just take it back because they only have it a week and now they found out the car isn't going to last a couple of months. It's not right that people take advantage of young people or anyone for that matter right now at this point they are already almost $2,000 cash out of pocket, every penny they have saved since they arrived here is all gone. They can't afford to buy another car at this time. My nephew and his girlfriend have a 2 year old and they're just starting out they are young but are honest and hard working and for them to lose this amount of money which may not be alot for some people but for others it's a fortune makes me angry. They will be out of a car in a few weeks if this problem isn't fixed they don't have any more money to repair an engine. Isn't there a law against this kind of stuff cause if there isn't there should be. I'm just wondering if anyone can help us with this problem. All we want is for the car to be repaired at no additional cost to us since there was a warranty purchased on the engine for a year they should be repairing it for free. Is there anything we can do that would help us take care of this matter?
