$5,000 down for furniture that hasn't been delivered in over 6 months

I would like to help a friend file a consumer complaint against Ashley Furniture HomeStore, 377 Hwy 70 SW, Hickory, NC 28602, phone number (828) 304-0741. I accompanied my friend to buy some furniture in Hickory, NC after Christmas 2005. She purchased several pieces of Ashley furniture and wrote a check in the amount of $5,000.00 to Ashley Furniture HomeStore at the above address. My friend was informed that the furniture would be delivered over the next 4-6 weeks. Her furniture has not arrived as of today, June 30, 2006 - and the store refuses to return her $5,000.00 or to give her a date for the delivery of the furniture. The owner of the store refuses to return any phone calls. My friend's husband is threatening with divorce, my friend is in extreme mental anguish and I feel guilty for reccommending her to shop for furniture in Hickory. Who can help my friend? How can she file a complaint with you?

I've just recently had troubles with Ashley Furniture. Wish I had read all these comments on the net before I went shopping.

I find it hard to believe that you would put down 5000 dollars on this stuff and not have a specific date for the delivery. Call the police if this is a genuine complaint. Some people like to over indulge time frames when it comes to when something was put on order and when it was promised..are you for real??

I also wish I had read this before shopping at Ashley.
I have a trouble with Ashley, too. Because they kept changing the delivery date back and forth 4 times, I finally cancelled everything

My name is Mrs. Hutson and I operate the Hickory, NC location. I am very concerned about the consumer that writes this e-mail. Reason being the consumer came in our store and purchased merchandise without her husband and signed the contract. The store can only give a est. of a delivery date if something goes on backorder from the manufacture then customer service must call that consumer and explain why their delivery date changed and when it should arrive by another est. date. When the shipping date changed on this consumers merchandise her husband was very upset. Ashley Furniture refunded her $5000. in full.
Ashley Furniture HomeStore of Hickory NC can only speak on this individual store. All stores are independently owened and operated . All stores have their own policies and procedures regarding Customer Service, Purchases,Deliveries and Warranty Claims.
As far as the Hickory, NC store we value every customer and we will make mistakes but we try very hard to correct them.
