Baker Appliance Complaint

Appliance Repair Scam - Used appliance sales and repairs

- 1616 N.Florida Mango Rd. W. Palm Beach, FL33409
On August 1, 2011 I purchased a lightly used Kenmore Plus Flat Top Stove from Baker Appliance (or Appliance and Air Conditioning Repair as they sometimes also call themselves). I paid $260 cash and was given a receipt for my payment that in addition to stating "Paid in Full" also includes "7 Day Warranty".

I was by the owner himself- Steve Baker- that the stove was in perfect working condition, and if there were any problems at all they would be covered under the 7 day warranty so a repair man would come fix them immediately.

Once I had the stove in my home and installed, it was clear that there were some issues. There was no oven light. The backboard which is supposed to light up according to which burner is lit was not working. Some showed that the stove was not on at all, even when in actuality, the burners were on max heat. I consider this a danger and called to have the repair man come look at it, since I had a 7 day warranty. I was sure that since these were not major issues it would be no problem for them to fix. Afterall, they are an appliance repair company...shouldn't they be able to handle this?

It is now August 3, 2011 and I have waited more than 48 hours for the repair man to come to my home and fix this unit. I have called more than 10 times each day, only to be told him the repair man's son (Jonathan) "he is on his way". I came home from work early and sat around waiting for these people to come- they never showed. I made a specific appointment for 1PM and they STILL never showed up!

Finally after being stood up by this "company" for the second full day in a row, I called back one last time in an attempt to find out WHY no one would come fix my unit, despite the 7 day warranty. Jonathan told me "Go to Lowes and get the equipment to fix the stove yourself. It's not hard". When I pointed out again that I had a 7 day warranty and shouldn't have to fix it myself (not to mention not knowing how to service a stove) he said the warranty didn't cover bulbs for the oven lights or a malfunctioning backboard.

My warranty does not list ANY exclusions- this was a lie made up so they would not have to send someone out. It is now clear to me that this entire thing has been a scam. No "repair man" was ever scheduled to come to my house, nor do they honor their warranty or even check the appliances they sell.

I hope no one in the future needs to go through the frustration I did and have to learn the hard way that this "company" is really a bunch of scam artists. Next time I will simply go to Sears and get things done right the first time.
