American Institute of Addiction Complaint

Sober Home Turns Somber - Sober Home aka Cambridge Homes for Sober Living

- Malden, MA
Last week my learning disabled son had an intake appointment for a sober home in Cambridge. He was told to bring 260 in cash - l30 for the intake and 130 for one week's rent. After the initial meeting in Malden with the owner, he was given an address in Cambridge. The property was seedy at best. Although the men who lived there were great guys, the rugs were filthy and my son was placed in a top floor room with beds for several other clients, far too many beds in one room for a healthy situation. Tom, my son, spent one night there and left the next day. Mr. Devlin refused to refund any of the 260 dollar fee nor explain why. I can certainly understand how their intake fee may not be refundable nor the amount of money for one night's stay, but Mr. Devlin's refusal to explain why, return any of my phone calls and basically hang up on me is inexcusable.

These people are more than accommodating when money is coming their way, but when their website totally is misleading in terms of the "quality facility", they seem to be taking advantage of people when they are at their lowest point.

If a family member of yours is suffering from addiction or needs help to get clean, this place is, I repeat, this place, the American Institute of Addiction is the absolute worst place to send a love-one in need. They will most likely come out not only worse off than when they went in, but will also come out broke. Chris Devlin has no clue how to properly help people struggling with addiction. He is uneducated on the subject and greedy- a lethal combination. I heard him say time and time again to my class "Go ahead and drink! I don't care. No skin off my nose"... No skin off his nose because he pockets your money and buys himself a nice big steak, as he mentioned several times in class as well. He also loved to boast about all the bad stuff he used to do and get away with such as: "I used to drink and drive all the time! Never caught me, sucks you got caught!"
The American Institute of Addiction there to "help" people?? Try help them dig an early grave deeper into addiction. Oh, and Devlin doesn't comply with state regulations for his programs and asks students to lie about it, too. Devlin sounds like a real "life saver", doesn't he?
