Alltel Complaint

Alltell Is A Scam. Period.

Alltel ripped me off and tried to ruin my credit and 7 years of Alltel service is now over...

It all began after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Alltel sent me a text message saying that our service was going to be free during these tough times.

That was nice, they gave me a free month and I switched to the $80 family plan and BAM! They hit me with a $1,200 bill. That's more than my rent!

They said that I must pay the full bill or my service will be disconnected so I requested an itemized bill.

When I got the bill, it appears that they charged me for two individual plans and all the overtime for both plans, not to mention they charged me for the itemized bill.

After endless debates with Alltel supervisors, they admit they made a mistake in the bill. And offer to reduce the bill, but it was not enough. $500 is a far cry from $80 a month, so I threw in the towel.

Now Alltel is harassing me to pay the $500.00 PLUS a $200.00 disconetion fee.

I was supposed to switch to Cingular today, but Alltel's computer system is 'down' and they can not switch the phone number over.

While I remained loyal to Alltel for 7 years, they met me with incompetence and dishonesty.

I am an Alltel customer. I have been for 5 years. When I first went with Alltel, I had the cheapest family plan they offered. It cost me $42.00 per month for 2 phone numbers for my wife and I with unlimited calls to each other.

All was good for 2 years, then I ordered new phones for us. Then, the bill went from $42.00 to $118.00.

I called.

They could not explain what happened, but said they would check it out and call me back. They called back the next day and said that service plan that we had no longer existed, so the computer put us in a "comparable" plan. I think not. With some discussion and being handed off to a supervisor, I agreed to a new plan.

The new plan cost me $48.00 per month for essentially the same plan I had before.

Oh, the new plan came with 30 free minutes of web access time, so I checked out that service. I bought no ring tones, though I checked out about 30 or so. When I got the bill, I found I was charged for 40 minutes of air time. My bill with these charges, and some others that I was unaware of, then came to $118.00.

I called them up. They explained that while the access to the service was free for 30 days, the air time was not. I told them that their agent had not explained to me and with some hem-hawing around, they corrected my bill back to $48.00.

Thank you Alltel for your understanding and courteous treatment of your customers.

Now, This thing about selling out to Verizon.

That really sucks.
