Can't Hear The Script Over The Fore Ground Music - Audio Mixing

Everyone in our circle of family and friends over 40 years old has a problem with the sound on most of the TV shows and Movies! The script of the actors can not be heard clearly due to the back ground music being so loud that it becomes fore ground music!

And there fore we turn up the volume to hear the script being recited,BUT THE MUSIC IS STILL SO LOUD WE CAN NOT HEAR THE ACTORS TALK! WHAT GENIUS DECIDED THIS AS A NORM IN EVERY NETWORK IN AMERICA?

SO GUESS WHAT? THE NETWORK SHOWS LOOSE THE VIEWERS DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE CHANGE THE CHANNEL TO FIND PROPERLY MIXED ENTERTAINMENT! The people over 40 have the money and the buying power and we will not buy if we can not watch the program!
Now how many people over 40 are watching TV in the evening?
70 OR 80 %! this is the topic of conversation with everyone we know! where do we take this frustrating complaint?
We would like to hear a little music with our shows on TV and not a a little script with our music!
The audio community is aware of this situation and not doing anything about it!

I aggree with you 100%.I think it is absolutely stupid to play that **** loud *** music when people is talking. Why do musicians think that their music is so important when it has nothing to add to the plot of the movie. Even the comercials are doing it now. Most of the times I don't even know what they are selling. Any more when a program comes on and the music is so loud that I cant hear the audio I just go to another channel that does not have loud music. I think the sponsor of the program shouls have to listen to their own products that they are trying to sell the public.

Right On!! I'm finding the same thing - each big blockbuster TV show cranks the background so loud that you cannot hear critical parts of the dialogue! I don't believe it's the musicians - it's the mixers that figure we want a high volume level all the time. I wonder if it's a generational thing. Those who grew up with walkmen and ear bud speakers have partial hearing loss so they figure it's OK. What do others think?
