I responded to an ADT ad for home alarm services. I told them I was trustee of my Mother's estate and she was terminally ill. I was told I could get free installation for my Mother's house and all I would have to pay was a month to month charge with no contract or penalty for early discontinuation. The house was alarmed and immediately I was billed for a $100 installation fee. When I told them I had been promised there would not be a fee on a recorded phone call with the company and the salesman, ADT denied this and promised me they would send me the tape to review and if I was correct they would refund the charge. I went ahead and paid it as I needed the service, but they never sent the tape.
My Mother died in Sept of 2009. I told the company that I would no longer need the service. They told me that although they would not charge her in the case of death, that because I had ordered the service instead of my Mother that there would be a $650 cancellation fee due to the local installer. I have been trying to get them to see that the executor is the same as the person, but they keep billing me.
I would like these disreputable practices stopped, my $100 installation fee refunded and have the cancellation charge dropped.
