I am a retired NYC teacher, I was insured by Aetna
Healthcare Pol No MEBBMN7x Golden Medicare. Their
HCare deductions are automatically taken out of my
pens. check. In Sep. 05, I received a notice from
explaining that they would automatically enroll me
in Medicare Plan D Pres. Drug Coverage so I should
not apply when Medicare send me a subscription form.
1/1/06 they cancelled my Pres. Drug Coverage paid by
them. I contacted them many times after this and I
was told you will hear from us. From 1/1/06 till
3/31/06 I heard nothing. In the meantime prescriptions
were running up to $300. per month. I had to pay this
out of my own pocked. Since Aetna would do nothing about
Plan D for me, I enrolled in a plan with Pacific Care of
Calif. Now my presciptions only cost $22 a month each.
Nice to have some money again.
On 5/3/06 I recd a ltr from them relating that Medicare,
not Aetna had cancelled my insurance plan. The onus
was placed on Medicare. Today 5/11/06 I received a ltr
from their office at POB981107 El Paso Texas stating
that 2 doctor visits on 4/24/06, and 5/4/06 would not
be paid (no reason given). Since my plan was cancelled
on 3/31 and I was not notified of my cancellation until
5/7/06 I think they are legally responsible to pay these
amounts.
I wrote them today stating this.
Is it possible that these HMO's want to get rid of
anyone over 65 (not enough profit) so they delay
their Medicare Prescription plan and force them to
enroll otherwise with the resultant effect that
their plan is cancelled? Many seniors pay huge amts
for prescriptions. The strain of waiting for their
HMO to enroll them could be cost prohibitive. So they
are forced to enroll on their own with the ultimate
result that these companies cancel their insurance?
I call this The Great American Ripoff.
