I am a woman, begrudgingly admitted, a senior citizen. November 1,2010, I unwittingly fell prey to fraud through an internet purchase of a car on a site called sellmycar. The "seller's" e-mail is listed as rita. jones88@hotmail.com, address Marietta, GA. When I indicated interest in this car, the site switched to an E-Bay page, complete with authentic logo and customer protetion, etc. TO CONTACT "SELLER".
The $2500.00 payment + $130.00 fee was made through a local Western Union in Crossville, TN as required by the "seller". When the car was not delivered as per contract, I reported the fraud to Western Union to stop payment, who said they will not do anything because the cash was paid instantly--though I sent it with a delay-- then I went to the police. Western Union offered me "cooperation" with the police, however, (Detective Hall) investigators could not get ANY information from Western Union as to where my money was picked up or by whom, nor could I get that information! They have a "privacy policy". (Detective Hall) has filed a subpoena for all information from Western Union regarding this matter, and has required the video of the person(s) picking up the cash, but has received NO Cooperation from Western Union!!!
WHY IS WESTERN UNION PROTECTING FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY BY SUCH SCAM ARTISTS WHO USE THEIR SERVICES TO COMMIT CRIMES?
People who commit fraud and use Western Union as an accomplice, must be stopped. My money was routed out of the country ?--Western Union has done nothing.
