Illinios department of Family Services Complaint

9% interest that is never ending and will keep you struggling - child support

- Peoria , Illinois
I had went to court in December to modify my support payment for the first time since been divorced 9 years ago. I went into business for myself, making my payments the best I could. But the work I try to perform and make a living doing it was concrete construction. This I knew wasn't a year around job, that I would still be paying support in the off season. I did the best I could to make ends meet, I started to fall behind. Well to make a long story short, I went back to work for the union that I was joined to. I work everyday that they had work but I had to work some of my jobs as they came in and still fell behind. I went from working 9 months for a company plus myself to find out that I am around $8,000.00 behind in support with paying extramoney toward my reage. This was do to 9% that the state puts on toward unpaid balance of support over the years. When I went to court, I asked the judge if I could make a motion to stop or drop the 9% interest toward what I was paying on support. I told him that I have got 2 childrens still in school, that when the yuongest child gets out of school I will be payiny for 3 more years after that. That is if I never fall behind or miss a payment again. The judge said that I could Make the motion but there was nothing he could do it was Illinois law. I smerked and made the comment to the judge and said don't judges change or make laws. Banks and credit card companys get bailed out, but a hard working dad can;t get a simply 9% interest dropped off support so that he doesn't have to be paying for his kids once they are out and living on their own. I hope there is someone out there that can shead alittle light at the end of the tunnel for me .
