Recently, our residents were told that our taxes are being raised 74%. Last year they raised it 25%. I think there could be a story here.
Last week there was a public hearing; but when residents tried to talk, they were told by a City Council Member to "shut up". A council member told one resident to "move out of here",if he didn't like it. This story was in last Wed.'s Mid Hudson Times. Now the council is talking about censoring us from speaking at these city council meetings.
While they are raising our taxes, they have cut our police department and now are threatening to get rid of our paid firemen. This is a dangerous city and we need police protection. Plus, I feel 24/7 fire departments are a necessity here.
Our newspapers would have the necessary information you need to check this out. They are: 'The Middletown Record', Middletown, NY and 'The Mid Hudson Times', Newburgh, NY. They can inform you of how this all came about. They way they treat the public is callous, uncalled for, and a downright disgrace.
Last night a group of concerned citizens calling itself, "Concerned Citizen Coalition" held a meeting in a Newburgh Church. Layer Ronald Cohen was in attendence, to propose a class action lawsuit that would take two to three years and much money to pursue.
Please keep my name from appearing on anything because I do not want payback from them, for trying to openly tell our plight.

I must stress again that the need to keep my name out of any news that may be seen here in Newbugh, is 100%. The reson being: I wrote a letter once to the newspaper (signature included) in reference to my vote and who I was voting for and why. Next time I went to a store, I was cornered and intimidated for my opinion. I am elderly and do not want that to happen again.
