Nissan Complaint

2002 nissan altimas 2.5 engines - Engine Problems

- Stokes County
I own a 2002 nissan altima 2.5S, Car was bought new. This car has been very carefully maintained oil changes every 3,000 miles. It now has 104,000 miles on it. Has never used oil, or leaked any. My wife said engine was making a noise. I visually checked under the hood. But not checking the oil level, She drove another 2 days engine light came on. I had the code checked, it was a low effiency catalyist. I researched the code on the internet. It said people should start checking their oil level. So I did that night, Her car was almost 3 quarts low, would not register on the dipstick. Im almost sure this goes back to 2003-2004.. When Nissan, had a recall that should have prevented this from happening in the future. The catalyist gets so hot it falls apart and metal particles enter the engine, scoring the walls, causing your car to suddenly start losing oil. From what I'm reading cost would be from $3500.00 to $5500.00 To fix the problem. Again READ UP ON THIS RECALL..that should have kept this issue from happening! If you own 1 of these cars, any engine nosises you better check your oil. Thanks, for reading this hope it helps!
